Hypnotherapy for Addiction amazing results!

Hypnotherapy for addiction is needed now more than any other time in history. Quite a bold statement. However, the evidence is now overwhelming on two fronts. Addictions are greatly on the rise and hypnotherapy is having fantastic results in reversing this issue.study

There is an inspirational Ted Talk by Brene Brown. It looks at the data surrounding ‘vulnerability’ and living ‘whole heartedly.’ What she discovered was that those who are amongst the happiest in this world live whole heartedly and embrace vulnerability. What the data also clearly demonstrated was that we as a modern western society, actually numb vulnerability. As soon as we start to feel this uncomfortable emotion, we block it out.  With our addictions. With alcohol, social media, gambling, food, smoking, cocaine, sex, work, pills, prescription drugs etc. My addiction was with prescription medication. It’s wonderful to be free now. And I want to show others how to free themselves too. Brene Brown Ted Talk

Hypnotherapy for addiction could be the solution. This problem with numbing vulnerability is only getting worse. The recent pandemic highlighted this. A fearful public tend to drink, eat, worry and stress more. Statistics show in UK 38% of the population gained weight during the pandemic. Sales of alcohol also increased by 34%. I am also quite sure that the cocaine/drug dealers did pretty well during this period too. Start Hypnosis

Why Addictions Stay?

Even sowhy are addictions so difficult to break? And does hypnosis for addiction really work? Addictions trigger your brain’s reward system which then sends out feel-good hormones such as dopamine.

Once triggered, it feels so good that you want to do it again, and again, and again. This can lead to the reward system being overstimulated, producing a “high”.

Gradually, your brain adjusts to what’s going on and sends out less dopamine, building tolerance in the addict. But they want to feel that same depth of pleasure that a high produces, which they can only enjoy by exposure to more of the substance or activity     NHS

“Understanding the difference between healthy striving and perfectionism is critical to laying down the shield and picking up your life. Research shows that perfectionism hampers success. In fact, it’s often the path to depression, anxiety, addiction, and life paralysis.”

Hypnotherapy = Unconscious Mind Therapy

I have spent many years researching this question, as I have been personally affected by this issue. There are dozens of great books, techniques and therapies, but most do not work long term. I have managed through years of trial and error, to put together a very successful programme. However, once I added hypnotherapy to this programme, the improvement to my clients’ lives has been dramatic!

Evidence exists that hypnotherapy for addiction has the power to help rewire neurological networks, physically changing the brain through repetition and exposure to keywords and phrases. Hypnosis for addiction

And that also means it’s more likely that you’ll be able to sustain your new behavior patterns even after the session is over. Although more than one session may be needed to achieve this

All of a person’s beliefs, values, habits, programmes, are stored in the unconscious mind. In hypnotherapy we can talk directly to your unconscious mind. We then take out the programmes you no longer require (addictions, fear, emotional baggage). Next, we put in the new healthier programmes you desire.

However, this alone would be insufficient. A good start but probably not achieving long term results. With hypnotherapy for addiction, we address the emotional reasons underneath the addictive behavior.

Here is the 3-step formula for success

  1. Inner peace- Deprograming. Letting go of all the limited decisions and negative beliefs you hold about yourself. To the point where you can grateful to all that has ever happened.
  2. Outer Power- Reprogramming. Changing your perceptions, expectations and patterns of thought and speech.
  3. Purpose- Finding the meaning to your life. Gaining a sense of connection…sense of oneness. Developing unconditional love for all things.

Achieving these 3-steps is different for everybody. Not every client needs to attain all three. They serve as a direction a goalpost to aim for. It is along this journey that the addiction issues disappear.

Inspiring Books

There’s a great inspiring book by Jack Trimpey called Rational Recovery.  AVRT He went to Alcoholics Anonymous for many years. It never worked long tern for him, like 90% of people. What Jack discovered was that there’s a ‘part’ of us running the addiction. As a hypnotherapist I know all about parts therapy very well. The unconscious mind is made up of many different parts. A part that drives the car, a part that chooses what to eat, a part that is a son, brother, friend, worker. Etc. Jack discovered a way to manage this chaotic part.

First recognizing that there is this part. Jack calls this ‘Addictive voice recognition technique (AVRT). Understanding it is only offering ‘suggestions’, not orders. This part can also make you think and feel. Once my clients fully understand this behavior, (they are not going crazy), the burst out of the addiction bubble. An epiphany is in the post!

How Hypnotherapy for addictions works

While in a hypnotic trance, the person being hypnotized, or hypnotic subject, is more open to suggestion by the hypnotist or hypnotherapist.2 They generally become more passive and compliant with suggestions as directed by the hypnotist or hypnotherapist. Under hypnosis, people can become more imaginative, more open to fantasy, and sometimes, more able to access long-forgotten memories, although these memories are not always reliable.

Hypnotherapy for addiction is very safe. People come out of hypnotherapy session feeling refreshed and revitalized. When we access a memory, we do so as an adult with all the wisdom, experience and knowledge. We can then reassess from a place of safety and calm. Not a place of fear. When this is performed, we allow the unconscious mind to let go of any negative emotion attached to this emotion.

This relaxed and suggestible state can help people to get a different perspective on their addictive behavior’s. What normally seems impossible—quitting a substance or behavior that is central to one’s existence—can seem achievable and desirable.

Some studies have shown that hypnotherapy can help with addictions since hypnosis can allow certain people through the power of suggestion to strengthen their willpower in overcoming their addictive urges and cravings. The hypnotic state decreases a person’s peripheral awareness, heightening attention and suggestibility to potentially effectively alter the neurophysiological networks capable of rewiring certain patterns and conditioning.1

This means a person’s feelings and behavior’s continue to be influenced even after they have come out of a hypnotic trance.

Hypnotherapy is not a magic wand. A person needs to be motivated themselves. They often say a person needs to be about a 7/10 motivated, to make the changes happen. If that is you, what are you waiting for?

If it’s not why not? Why are you not motivated to change for the better? Why are you holding back, denying yourself…fear perhaps…procrastination maybe…Well good news, all of these can be addressed in hypnotherapy, as part of the package.
